This is the unique original Gouache painting by Angus McBride.

Mungo Park went to Africa to trace the course of the River Niger, determined to shoot his way through hostile natives. North of the Niger, he met the proud, warlike Tuaregs who decided that Park would not leave Africa alive.

Mungo Park was exhibited in a market place as a sideshow and forced to dress and undress many time a day to show the tribesmen his strange white skin and odd-buttoned clothes.

Original artwork for illustration on p36 of Look and Learn issue no 580 (24 February 1973). Note the artwork is pasted to a larger board where the text was once fixed.
