This is the Signed original Gouache painting by Ronald Lampitt.

On Easter Day 1772, a Dutchman landed on a new island - an island filled with strange statues. Why were they there? That is just one of the many questions that the natives cannot - or will not - answer. The island became known as Easter Island, though the reason for the mysterious statues is still not fully understood.

Ronald Lampitt brilliantly captures the 'alien' feel of the landscape. This is the original artwork for illustration on p5 of Look and Learn no 96 (16 November 1963).
