Description: An original painting used to illustrate the daring story of HMS Amethyst on the Yangtze River in 1949, when she came under heavy fire from Chinese Communist forces on both banks of the river.
She was trapped for several weeks and 22 seamen were killed. She eventually escaped and in 1957 a film was made of her famous exploits. A dramatic picture showing the frigate under fire.
