This is the Signed unique original Pen & Ink Wash by Cecil Doughty.

This scene painted by Cecil Doughty in 1951 is a poignant depiction of the Slums of St Giles in London, home of Gin Lane. These streets were well documented by Hogarth's work during the 18th Century, depicting the total loss of civilised life to the drink of gin.

This less graphic depiction of the Gin Slums by Doughty is nonetheless charged with the desolation of the slums. Rats, squalor, stray dogs, thugs and prostitution abound in this rendition of London life in the early to mid 18th Century.
