This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Ralph Bruce.

During the period of The Commonwealth (1649 - 1660) the Globe Theatre was destroyed by the Puritans, also known as the Parliamentarians.

The strict religious views of the Puritans disapproved of various social activities within England which resulted in strict codes of conduct that deplored any kind of finery or flippant behaviour and so the Puritans deplored the Globe Theatre and all that it stood for.

This is the original artwork for illustration on p19 of Look and Learn issue no 199 (6 November 1965). From part 3 of the series Romance of the English Theatre.
