Bluebottle and Basher 1 (Original)

Bluebottle and Basher 1 (Original)

(Ref: BaxendaleBash1)

Artist: Leo Baxendale
Medium: Pen & Ink on Board
Size: 12" x 13" (300mm x 330mm)
Date: 1950/1960s

This is the original Pen & Ink drawing by Leo Baxendale.

It is rare that an original Leo Baxendale comes on the market. Baxendale created most of the memorable strips in the Beano and other DC Thomson comics in 1950s and 1960s including The Bash Street Kids, little Plum Your Redskin Chum, Minnie the Minx, the Banana Bunch and the Three Bears. He went on to write and create many strips for Fleetway comics including this example which ran for two years in Valiant comic from 1968 - 1970.

Basher was a huge fat burglar locked in a weekly conflict with a tiny policeman Bluebottle. This is a very fine example. Please note the art has been cut horizontally across the middle and shows a minor tape stain.

This art has been sold and is shown in our Archive for interest.
