This is the Signed original Gouache painting by Severino Baraldi.

Henry Bates, Explorer of the Amazon. In 1848 Bates travelled to Para (now Belem) Brazil. He then travelled to Cameta on the Tocantins River, then up the Amazon and finally to the Upper Amazon. His health eventually deteriorated and he returned to England.

He spent the next three years writing his account of the trip The Naturalist on the River Amazons, widely regarded as one of the finest reports of natural history travels. This is the original artwork for illustration on p31 of Look and Learn issue no 1042 (27 February 1982).
