This is the original Watercolour painting by Severino Baraldi.

Richard Chancellor (died 1556) was the first Englishman to penetrate the White Sea and establish relations with Russia. After leaving Russia in 1556, taking with him the first ever Russian Ambassador to England, his ship was wrecked off the Scottish coast.

This colourful illustration, from Look and Learn, no. 852, 13th May 1978, shows the moment when Chancellor and the Russian Ambassador, Osep Nepeja, were pitched into the sea.
