Description: From 1613 onwards the British tried unsuccessfully to colonise the Oulanas. But it was not until 1651 that an expedition sent out by Lord Willoughby, Governor of Barbados, arrived to build a permanent settlement there. Original artwork for illustration on p27 of Look and Learn issue no 438 (6 June 1970).
