What is 'illustration' art?
This is the artwork - usually a painting or drawing - specificallly created to illustrate a book, magazine (from Look and Learn to Playboy! ), graphic novel and comic (also called comic book and bande dessinée), newspaper strip, poster and animated film.

It includes book and magazine covers, famous newspaper strips such as Rupert Bear, Andy Capp, L'il Abner, Terry and the Pirates and Modesty Blaise, as well as the art for many iconic comic books and graphic novels as divers as Batman, The Beano, Judge Dredd, The Trigan Empire, and numerous Film and TV series and spin-offs such as Terrahawks, Sapphire and Steel and Dr Who, to name but a few ...

It also includes the animation cels and paintings/drawings used to create animated cartoon films, including such studios as Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros and Aardman.
What is 'original' art?
Each work of art that we describe as Original is exactly that - the unique work of art (for example the watercolour painting or the pen and ink drawing) created by the artist for the printer or publisher to illustrate a book, comic, newspaper strip, graphic novel, magazine, film animation, poster, album cover, etc.

So each piece of original art that we offer is a true "one-of-a-kind" and may bear the artist's signature.

We also offer limited edition prints - that is, printed reproductions of an original work of art - and these are always clearly described as a Print in the description.
